Mindfulness is a state of being that is inherent to us all, but it is more readily accessible when we engage in daily practices that cultivate it.
Mindfulness is the psychological process of bringing one's attention to experiences occurring in the present moment. Whenever you bring awareness to what you're directly experiencing via your senses, or to your state of mind via your thoughts and emotions, you're being mindful.
Cultivating this awareness through the activities of yoga, meditation, artistic exploration and spending time in nature is the objective of this week's program.
We warmly invite you to leave the modern pressures and stresses behind for a week of mindfulness through yoga, art and nature connection.
Connect with your Self each morning through a Gentle Yoga Sadhana led by holistic yoga therapist, Evening Marie; the practice slowly awakens you from head to toe and brings awareness to body, mind, and breath.
As the breath leads us through a series of postures, we become more and more attuned to the present moment; connecting to our senses, which dictate our thoughts and feelings, and then relaxing into total presence before flowing onwards, moment by moment, breath after breath. The practice concludes with relaxation followed by mindful meditation practices that progressively instill a peaceful and present state of being that will carry us throughout each day.
Afternoon Art & Nature sessions with Edina Husanovic will focus on soaking up the wonderful, restorative and inspiring nature of Hvar Island in the most direct way - through drawing of its beautiful landscapes. In the 4 dedicated afternoon sessions of the retreat, the artist will invite the participants to engage in a series of drawing and movement activities designed to focus and calm the mind.
Who is this for?
The retreat is aimed at beginners and more experienced participants alike. It is not aimed at testing the level of yoga or quality of the drawing, but rather on expanding the mindfulness of the activity. This event will be conducted in English with Croatian/Bosnian translations available.

Art & Nature Program Details
With the gorgeous landscape of Hvar at our fingertips, we will focus on the object of our drawing, whether it’s a leaf, flower, tree or more complex landscape, through a series of mark-making and drawing. The participants will be invited to keep a reflective diary to accompany their drawing. The reflective diary can be used as a means of focusing on one's thought processes, allowing an intimate dialogue with oneself, our thoughts and our emotions. This intimate dialogue through writing will be an extension in our practice of mindfulness during the programme.
Participants will also be able to develop their drawings into a mandala, a circular geometric pattern, which they may use to aid their everyday practice of mindfulness. Mandala, meaning ‘circle’ in Sanskrit has long been used in Buddhism and Hinduism as an aid in meditation. Drawing mandalas will prompt us to connect some of our observational drawings from the island with the expression of the inner life. Creating a mandala can be a wonderful activity of centering and expression within the protective structure of a circle.
Extending this exploration of the circle geometry into a movement, participants will be invited to re-awaken the body-mind connection through circular movement. In a gentle and freeing way, we will tune into the major power centers, or chakras, following the rippling, round movement reflecting our exploration of mandalas as well as the mindfulness of the natural movements manifested in the island environment.
Edina's twenty years of experience of Buddhist Vipassana meditation, combined with years of experience leading workshops in drawing, enables her to lead this program in a powerful way. Learn more about Edina

Included in the Art of Mindfulness Program Package is a 60-minute mindfulness meditation evening workshop where we will explore the theme using various techniques taken from a variety of sources.
